Dashain celebrated with a Cultural Program and Dashain Cup Soccer Tournament in Montreal
This year Association of Nepalese in Quebec (ANQ) took a new initiative in organizing a Dashain Celebration Program with a Dashain Cup Soccer Tournament, Dashain party and Cultural Program on 8th October 2011 in Montreal, Canada.
First time in Montreal, those who share the same language and culture grouped together to make the Dashain Celebration Event even more entertaining organizing the first Dashain Cup Soccer Tournament. Since the beginning of the day, players and spectators from Montreal, St-Jerome, Joliette, Sherbrook City and Quebec City started to gather in the soccer field. Players were able to show their talent in soccer and spectacular game amid the cheers from supporter crowd. In this historic tournament, Quebec city team was able to secure the first place and Sherbrook team secured second place.
In the evening, Centre William-Hingston - St. Roch hall was ready to welcome all the participants of Dashain celebration with a traditional Dashain dhun. The celebration began with a traditional Tika and Jamara offered by Mr. Pabitra Upadhya. All participants had a deliciou
s Dashain bhoj and wished a very happy Vijaya Dashami to each other.
Immediately after Dashain bhoj, a traditional cultural show started in the Auditorium hall of the centre. President Mr. Prakash Mungrati welcomed all participants and wished a happy Vijaya Dashami on behalf of ANQ. Mr. Pabitra Upadhya, Dr. Hemant Paudel and Patrick Baral delivered their Dashain wishes. Artists from various cities performed their dances, songs, poems and jokes. The program was very lively and entertaining. Winner teams and players received Dashain Cup and medals from advisors duo Mr. Mugadhan Rajbhandari and Mr. Hom Lamichhane during the program. As a token of appreciation and as an incentive to the players, Mr. Raju Rana and Mr. Man Bahadur Limbu distributed cash prize to the winner teams. Just before ending of the program, the Montreal soccer team, ANQ Executive Team, Advisory Team and specially Mr. Shyam Tamang who really worked hard coordinating both soccer tournament and cultural program were introduced and honoured for making this event historic. The cultural program was hosted by Mr. Hemanta Dahal.
