Women-only Minibus Service in Kathmandu

At the initiative of Kathmandu's transport entrepreneurs, a bus service exclusively for women has been launched in Kathmandu, Nepal in a bid to make commuting safe and secure for female passengers, who often face sexual assault on public transport in the country.

The 17-seater minibus service, started by Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, will operate on key routes in Kathmandu during morning and evening rush hour.

Women in Nepal often face groping and sexual assault while travelling on public transport especially during peak hours when buses are overcrowded.

According to World Bank survey in 2013, 26% of female respondents aged between 19 and 35 said they had experienced some form of sexual assault on public transport in Nepal.

Let us know what you think – if it is a big initiative taken by transport entrepreneurs to make commuting safe and secure for women travelers.
